For this episode of the JamDad Podcast, we’re pouring a heavy, complex cocktail with a sweet finish. Our featured drink of the week is the Cherry Sazerac—a bold take on a New Orleans classic that pairs deep rye with a hint of anise and cherry. It’s the perfect companion for some late-night gear talk and unscripted laughs.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Rye whiskey (or Cognac)
  • 1 oz Absinthe (for coating the glass)
  • 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters (or Angostura if that’s what’s on the bar!)
  • 1 tsp Maraschino cherry juice
  • Lemon peel for garnish

Instructions: Rinse a chilled rocks glass with the absinthe, swirling it to coat the inside completely, then discard any excess. In a separate mixing glass with ice, combine the rye whiskey, bitters, and maraschino cherry juice. Stir well until perfectly chilled, then strain the mixture into your absinthe-coated glass. Express the lemon peel over the top, drop it in, and enjoy.
